UGI Employees Support Neighborhood Fire Safety and Education
UGI employee volunteers worked hand-in-hand with community volunteers, local fire companies and the American Red Cross throughout January performing activities associated with the Home Fire Sound the Alarm program.
Seventeen UGI employees helped install nearly 360 smoke alarms and assisted hundreds of families complete a home fire safety checklist through four separate events throughout the month. Events were conducted in the city of Reading, Berks County; the city of Wilkes-Barre, Luzerne County; the borough of Carbondale, Lackawanna County; and the borough of Laureldale, Berks County.
These local events are part of the American Red Cross national home fire safety and smoke alarm installation program. As part of the initiative, volunteers, fire departments and other partners canvass at-risk neighborhoods, installing free smoke alarms and providing fire prevention information as well as safety education.

"Our Home Fire Campaign has made thousands of Pennsylvania homes safer and saved over 330 lives nationwide to date," Kim Maiolo, Red Cross Central Pennsylvania Region Communications Director, said. "We're grateful for UGI's support of this lifesaving initiative and for their employees who volunteer time and time again to make our communities safer."
Since 2014, the Sound the Alarm campaign has installed more than 1.1 million smoke alarms across the United States. The goal of the effort is to reduce fire-related deaths and injuries by 25 percent by 2020.
