Governor Corbett Issues Statement of Support for Tobash Pension Reform Amendment

Tobash Amendment A06917 creates Hybrid Retirement Plan for Public and School District Employees

Harrisburg Governor Tom Corbett today issued the following statement in support of Amendment A06917 introduced by Rep. Mike Tobash (R- Schuylkill) to HB 1353, originally introduced by Rep. Warren Kampf. The Tobash amendment is a product of working collaboratively with the Corbett Administration to create a hybrid retirement plan for public and school district employees.

I fully support the Tobash amendment to HB 1353. Pension costs continue to erode our ability to pay for important, necessary programs and services for Pennsylvanians. Every dollar saved through pension reform is a dollar that can be invested in our students, in our classrooms, and throughout our school districts across the commonwealth. Every dollar saved is another dollar available to help those waiting for needed services in their homes and in their communities.  Every dollar saved is an opportunity to build a stronger Pennsylvania.

Rep. Tobash, as well as Representatives Kampf and Ross and Senators Browne and Brubaker, should be commended for their leadership on this important issue. This key step should serve as an additional call to action for the legislature to act on pension reform now. By continuing to work together, we can and we must deliver much-needed pension reform.
